Communications Minister pays tribute to Eddie Zondi

Pretoria – Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi has added her voice to those mourning the loss of renowned disc jockey Eddie Makhosonke Zondi.

Zondi passed away on Monday morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 47.

He worked at Metro FM for more than 18 years. He presented the Romantic Repertoire on Sundays between 3pm and 6pm.

“Please receive my deepest condolences. Gone from our sight, but someone so special can never be forgotten in our hearts. His greatest joy was making others happy.  He will be on our minds and in our hearts today and always.

“Eddie was a personal friend and I knew him quite well as we would engage in broadcasting challenges and roles of DJs in the sector. Topics would include community development, especially rural community.

“For me it is a great loss. I will sadly miss Eddie,” said Minister Muthambi.

Condolences for Mophatlane's family

The minister also conveyed her condolences to the family and friends of Leetile Benjamin Mophatlane.

The 41-year-old was the CEO of ICT group Business Connecxion. He passed away last Wednesday following cardiac arrest.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, Business Connexion and the ICT industry at this time of sadness,” said Minister Muthambi on Wednesday.

“May the days ahead bring peace and comfort to the family and strength and solidarity to the ICT sector. May treasured memories comfort you and your family.”

The company has 6 800 staff in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Dubai and London.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura also paid his respects to Mophatlane, whose company started out as an SMME.

Premier Makhura said the country has lost an energetic entrepreneur.

“What is even sadder is that we lost this young business trailblazer during the month where we are celebrating young people and their contribution to a better South Africa - Youth Month. Our young people have lost someone they could look up to. He will forever be missed,” he said. – SAnews.gov.za
