Pretoria - Higher Education and Training Minister, Blade Nzimande, has extended the closing date for comments on three proposed higher education and training Amendment Bills to 22 May 2011.

The Further Education and Training Colleges Amendment Bill 2011, the Higher Education Laws Amendment Bill 2011 and the Skills Development Amendment Bill 2011 were published on 15 April 2011 in Notice No.228, Government Gazette No. 34222 and all interested persons were invited to comment.

The Amendment Bills will see the department taking on functions previously vested with the Basic Education and Labour Departments.

Nzimande expressed his appreciation for the interest shown and invites all interested persons and organisations to comment on the draft Bills in writing.

The department's Acting Director-General, Gwebinkundla Qonde, reminded people and organisations to include their name, address, telephone number, fax number and email address in their submissions.

"In the spirit of social dialogue and in the best interest of achieving a common goal in higher education and training, every person's cooperation and assistance to prioritise these Bills are imperative to successfully realise the goal of creating a vibrant and responsive post-school education and training system that will contribute to a growing, appropriately transformed and inclusive economy," said Qonde.
