City holds final dry-run ahead of inauguration

Tshwane - City residents have been reminded that some streets around the Union Buildings will be closed tomorrow as final preparations for Saturday's Presidential Inauguration are made.

The city will hold the final dry-run ahead of the inauguration which will give officials an indication of what needs to be done to ensure traffic flows are managed effectively on the day.

The street closures will start from 03h00 on Tuesday morning and last until 06h30. Residents, motorists and the general public have been urged to make contingency plans.

Metro Police officers will be manning the affected intersections and will be able to guide the motorists accordingly. Motorists will also be guided to the alternative routes that will be used to direct traffic.

Residents who will be most affected by the street closures are those who live around the Rietondale Park, Union Buildings precinct and those around the Bryntirion Estate precinct.

In addition, residents who use Soutpansberg Road to enter the city in the morning may encounter delays. They should approach Metro Police officers who will be manning the intersections in order to identify themselves and arrange entry and exit.

"In general, motorists will be on the roads during the morning of Tuesday are advised to add extra travelling time so that they are not badly inconvenienced," said the city in a statement.

The city has again reminded residents, motorists and the general public that there will be street closures on the day of the inauguration. The operations on Saturday will commence from 04h00 and last for almost the entire day.

The following closures will be in effect: Soutpansberg Road between Gordon and Hamilton streets; Government Avenue; Church Street between Orient and Athlone streets; and Hamilton Street between Soutpansberg Road and Edmond Street.

The following intersections with Government Avenue will be closed: Blackwood, Pine, Beckett, East, Herbert, Percy, Eastwood, Balmoral, Dumbarton and Nassau.

The following intersections with Church Street will be closed: Athlone, Orient, Blackwood, Pine, Beckett, East, Lisdogan, Balmoral, and Dumbarton.

The following intersections with Soutpansberg Road will be closed: Beatrix, Hamilton, Union, Viljoen, August, Well, Blake, Peter, Bouwer, Parker, Bruin, Merle, Hadley Betty, Van der Merwe and Gordon streets, and Tom Jenkins Drive.

Hamilton Street will be closed at Belvedere and Edmond streets. Some intersections in North Street will also be closed.
