Pretoria - Cabinet says initiatives announced by Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene on Wednesday in the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement will guide the economy through times of slower global economic growth and volatility.

Briefing media in Pretoria following this week’s Cabinet meeting, Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Jeff Radebe said Cabinet supports the initiatives that were outlined in the mini-budget.

Minister Nene presented the country’s expenditure framework for the next three years in Parliament on Wednesday.

Minister Radebe said South Africa has made progress in social and economic transformation and in addressing barriers to economic growth.

He said the expenditure framework will ensure government remains on course in implementing its programmes as spelt out in the National Development Plan (NDP).

“The key priorities remain at the centre of the medium-term expenditure plans. Cabinet further supports the cost containment measures of government which will ensure the priorities of government are not compromised in any way,” said Minister Radebe. - SAnews.gov.za
