Nene extends Kingon's stint

Monday, September 17, 2018

Acting South African Revenue Services (SARS) Chief Executive, Mark Kingon, will hold the position for a further three months, after Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene extended his stint on Friday.

The National Treasury says Kingon’s re-appointment was for 90 days, effective from 14 September 2018.

“Section 7 of the SARS Act empowers the Minister of Finance to appoint an acting commissioner. The President, however, appoints a permanent Commissioner,” the Finance Ministry said on Monday.

Kingon was appointed acting SARS commissioner in March after Tom Moyane was placed on suspension. The initial interim appointment was first extended in June.

Kingon, SARS said in March, has been with SARS since its establishment and worked his way through the ranks to become the Group Executive: Relationship Management within Business and Individual Taxes. – SAnews.gov.za
