Cabinet approves Development Indicators 2012

Thursday, May 2, 2013

Pretoria - Cabinet has approved that the sixth edition of Development Indicators (2012) to be published.

“The Development Indicators have become an annual publication and the 2012 edition summarises data on trends mainly for the period leading up to mid-year 2012,” said Performance Monitoring, Evaluation and Administration Minister in the Presidency, Collins Chabane during a post-Cabinet briefing on Thursday.

The indicators, Chabane said, assist in understanding the impact of various government policies and service delivery initiatives.

“The trend analysis that is included for each indicator confirms our understanding of the human development progress that we are making as a nation in key policy areas and further points out areas where we need to put extra effort.  A special media briefing will be arranged to unpack the report,” the minister said.

Data for the Development Indicators is sourced from government administrative datasets, official statistics and research done by local and international institutions.

The structure of the report is standardised and the 85 indicators are clustered according to ten themes: Economic Growth and Transformation, Employment, Poverty and Inequality, Household and Community Assets, Health, Education, Social Cohesion, Safety and Security, International Relations and Good Governance. - SAnews.gov.za
