Pretoria - A five-year-old boy died and seven others were slightly injured after a bakkie burst a tyre and rolled several times on the N14 Vryburg-Delarayville road in the North West Province last night.
An official said the accident occurred about 30km outside Vryburg at around 6pm.
"It is alleged that there were eight occupants in the Toyota Hilux bakkie which burst a tyre causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and roll several times," said public safety spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele
He said the driver and six female passengers who were slightly injured are said to be family members who were on route to Klerksdorp after attending a funeral in Taung.
The injured were rushed to Vryburg Provincial Hospital by paramedics for further examination and medical attention. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
