Tzaneen - Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale will hand over school shoes, food parcels, stationary packs and blankets to the learners of Nwaxindzhele Primary School in Tzaneen, on Friday.

According to the Premier's Office, Mr Mathale attended the primary school in the early 1970's.

The Premier will be distributing 700 stationery packs, 10 packs of 500 sheets of brown paper to cover school books, 700 blankets, 700 sweet packs, 1000 bottles of 300ml bottled water, 50 food parcels, 50 pairs of new ladies shoes and 10 boxes of second hand clothing.

The initiative is supported by the Gift of the Givers Foundation, which is the largest disaster relief organisation on the African continent.

So far, the foundation has already distributed stationery packs in 78 schools around the country which benefited over 43 000 learners.

Mr Mathale, who described education as a key to individual success, said he hoped that learners would not struggle through the same challenges which he had experienced in his childhood.

"We must always do our best to ensure that no learner is disadvantaged in any way during their studies. Our generation did not enjoy many of the benefits which are now available today, and this is why we must thank organisations like Gift of the Givers for lending a hand in the education of our children," he said.
