Bid farewell to the World Cup in style - Govt

Pretoria - With the eyes of the world firmly focused on the country, ahead of the World Cup final, Government has called on South Africans to see off the tournament in grand style.

Government spokesman Themba Maseko urged all South Africans to fly the flag on Friday in the build up to the final between Spain and the Netherlands.

"If there was ever a time in this tournament to hoist the flag to the highest point, the occasion of the final match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup is such a moment. South Africans have every reason to feel proud of their achievements as hosts," he said.

Maseko also encouraged the public to go out in large numbers on Sunday to bid farewell to the World Cup which was a landmark event in the county's history.

"Fan Fests, Fan Parks and Public Viewing Areas remain open throughout the country, and the public are urged to gather at these facilities, fly the South African flag high and mark the closing of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on a high note," he said.

Government also congratulated the Spanish and Dutch teams for making it through to the final of the tournament.
