Another suspect in Dumisani Masilela's murder case arrested

Monday, August 20, 2018

A suspect in the murder case of actor Dumisani Masilela is set to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court today.

The last suspect was arrested on Friday and is the final puzzle piece in the August 2017 murder of the Rhythm City soapie actor who was fatally shot in a hijacking in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.

“The suspect will make his first court appearance before the Benoni Magistrate’s Court today, after which he will join his alleged accomplices set for trial in the Pretoria High Court from 8-19 October 2018,” said Gauteng police.

Following the hijacking, police were able to establish that a total of six suspects were behind the murder, with the initial four suspects arrested in 2017.

However, the fifth suspect died in a robbery.

All suspects have been positively linked to five cases including Masilela’s hijacking, three carjackings reported in Daveyton and Phokeng, among others.

Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange commended the intelligence-led, multi-disciplinary team of investigators for their efforts in ensuring the suspects were arrested.

"This successful arrest brought about by such meticulous investigation, will go a long way in ensuring that serious and violent crimes plaguing Gauteng are reduced to their lowest level,” said De Lange. -SAnews.gov.za
