Pretoria - With more than six million votes having being counted in the country's fourth democratic elections on Wednesday, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) has reached its four million mark.
Results streaming in at the Independent Electoral Commission's results centre show the ANC leads the 2009 General Elections nationally with 4 200 203 votes. The party is also in the lead in eight of the country's provinces.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is second on the leader board nationally with 1 135 725 votes and in third place is the recently-established Cope with 526 377votes.
The IFP is in fourth position with 187 479 votes, followed by the ID with 88 369; the UDM has 78 560 votes; while the Freedom Front Plus has 62 174. The A Party is still last in position with 1 045 votes.
It is still not known how many of the 23,181,997 registered voters turned out at polling stations.
