Afghan President leaves for SA to attend Memorial Service

Kabul - Afghan President Hamid Karzai left for South Africa on Monday to attend the Memorial Service of former President Nelson Mandela, a statement released by the Presidential Palace said.

"President Hamid Karzai left this noon for Johannesburg … to pay respect and attend the memorial service for Nelson Mandela, former President and anti-apartheid leader of South Africa," the statement added.

The memorial will be held tomorrow at FNB Stadium. Two other stadia – Orlando and Dobsonville – around Johannesburg will have public viewing to accommodate the people who will not have space once FNB reaches capacity.

At least 70 Heads of State and Government have confirmed attendance for either the memorial or State Funeral, which will be held on Sunday, 15 December. – SAnews.gov.za-Xinhua
