Pretoria - The fight against sexual offences recorded a major success when the Pretoria High Court sentenced a 30-year-old serial rapist to 27 life imprisonments on 27 counts of rape on Wednesday.

Mncedisi David Malahle was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for each of the eight counts of kidnapping, and another 15 years for each of the 16 counts of aggravated robbery.

He was arrested in April 2012 after being identified in Kanana in the North West through the help of informers and a DNA linkage, South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Thulane Ngubane said.

Malahle was successfully linked to 14 dockets that dated as far back as 2008 and 2012.

“It is alleged that his victims were all ladies [aged] between 20 and 40. Two of the survivors became pregnant when they were raped, which the court also considered when handing the sentences,” said Ngubane. - SAnews.gov.za
