Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube will on Thursday launch South Cape Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College's newly established Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Centre of Excellence and Centres of Specialisation.
These faciliies represent a strategic investment in the future of technical and vocational education, aimed at equipping students with skills aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the evolving needs of the modern industrial sector.
The project is the result of collaboration between the college, government and industry, with funding provided by the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA), together with industry partners including Intel, HP, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA).
The Centres of Specialisation were developed in partnership with the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA) to enhance artisan training capabilities and expand technical skills development.
According to the Higher Education and Training Department, the facilities will provide students with access to advanced equipment and technologies, while supporting curricula aligned with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) standards.
"This creates training pathways for both semi-skilled workers and unemployed youth. The hands-on approach ensures that graduates are not only qualified but also equipped to contribute meaningfully to the workforce from the outset," the department said.
The department said beyond student training, the centres will support the continuous professional development of both students and staff, further strengthening South Cape TVET College's position as a leading provider of quality vocational education and training. – SAnews.gov.za
