Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has today announced that the inaugural meeting of the non-statutory advisory panel to his office will be held in the first week of July 2025.

The panel, which focuses on Public Asset Management and Infrastructure Development, follows a commitment made by the Minister upon taking office to draw on expertise from both the public and private sectors to assist in reforming the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.

“This forms part of his vision to turn South Africa into a construction site and ensure that public assets are used for the public good,” the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure said in a statement.

“The panel members, who serve at no cost to the state and on a voluntary basis, were appointed through a public call for nominations. The department received hundreds of applications and conducted an in-depth shortlisting process,” the department said.

“At a time when economic and employment growth remain low, the role of this advisory panel is crucial to building a better South Africa.

“The upcoming meeting of this panel underscores the commitment to reforming the Department so that it can effectively deliver on its mandate, turn the country into a construction site that drives growth and job creation, and ensure that public assets are used to benefit all South Africans,” the department said.

Macpherson said he had no doubt that the advisory panel would play a vital role in helping build a more efficient and professional department “that delivers real improvements to the lives of South Africans across the country”.

“I sincerely congratulate all those appointed and look forward to working with them as we build a better South Africa,” he said. – SAnews.gov.za
