Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has arrived in Luanda, Angola, for the SADC Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government.
The meeting is expected to discuss matters related to the process of regional integration and review the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) of SADC, the regional blue print to accelerate economic and social development as well as regional economic integration.
Southern African leaders will also discuss preparations for the upcoming African Union (AU) Summit to be held in Malawi in July.
Amongst other things, the July Summit will elect candidates for various positions in the AU Commission, including the chairperson. SADC has nominated the South African Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, for the position of AU Commission Chairperson.
Thursday saw the ministerial meeting of the Double Troika, which includes Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania, as well as a meeting of the Council of Ministers and a Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Troika of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
Zuma is supported by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
