Sunday, April 17, 2011

Pretoria - The newly renovated Home Affairs office in Barrack Street, Cape Town, will be open to the public from Monday, 18 April 2011.

Members of the public will receive services from 7.30am to 4.30am Mondays to Fridays and on Saturdays from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

The office, which has been refurbished in line with the department's new corporate model, was officially opened by Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and showcased to Members of Parliament ahead of the department's budget vote on Tuesday, April 12.

The office will provide services such as the printing and issuing of birth certificates and other civic documents, applications for permits, while all data will be captured online through live capture technology.

The department says its online fingerprint verification will significantly improve the turnaround time in the issuance of various documents.

The refurbished office will also feature the queue management system that will help the department monitor how many people are served on a daily basis, while keeping accurate statistics of how long people had to wait to be served.

The system has been piloted in 13 other offices around the country, and is one way of helping to reduce waiting time, while ensuring that staff performance is closely monitored. - BuaNews
