SANParks celebrates Mandela Day

Pretoria - In celebration of Mandela Day, the South African National Parks (SANParks) head office staff members have spent 67 minutes at St Anne Primary School, in Pretoria.

The school was founded in 1945 as a Roman Catholic school, which catered for people who were forcefully removed from Marabastad, Bantule and Newclare. It was handed over to Bantu Education in 1970.

The school now has 548 learners and caters for underprivileged children from Atteridgeville.

SANParks handed over a vegetable garden and will also teach the educators and learners of St Anne planting skills and how to recycle.

“SANParks is glad to devote 67 minutes of its time to St Anne Primary School. We could not think of a better way of spending this day than with the children. There is no doubt that Madiba championed a better future for the young ones.

“After everything that Nelson Mandela did for this country and the world at large, it is up to individuals and organisations to make a difference in communities around them,” said SANParks Acting Head of Communications, William Mabasa. – SAnews.gov.za
