Pretoria - Power has been restored in Orlando West north and in Dube, Soweto, following a power outage on Monday morning, Eskom said.

The power outage was a result of cable theft.

“Eskom loses over R2 billion a year due to electricity theft. The losses suffered by the country as a whole, including municipalities, is at least double the Eskom figure,” said the utility.

Eskom is taking steps to combat cable theft in collaboration with the joint industry working group formed by Eskom, Transnet, Telkom, the South African Police Service, the National Prosecuting Authority, Business against Crime and the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Customers supplied by Eskom are encouraged to report all electricity outages to 08600 375 66 or 08600ESKOM and can obtain information on the status of supply on Eskom’s website www.eskom.co.za. – SAnews.gov.za
