Pretoria – MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala, has been appointed by the executive council to be the leader of government business, Premier Willies Mchunu announced on Wednesday.
Premier Mchunu said the first meeting of the executive council has ushered in a new era of hard work and dedication to serve the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
“This province is blessed with many capable leaders across all sectors of society who have a vision for a prosperous future. However, what is urgently needed is to choose the right path that will enable all of us to reach our destination,” said Premier Mchunu.
He also made a call to the provincial leadership at all levels to march into the future, as a province driven by ethos of working hard to ensure a better life for the people.
“Together we must ensure that in the next few years we make a serious impact in defeating the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality. This is a call which has been made by President Jacob Zuma.
“This freedom belongs to the ordinary people of our province and I want to reiterate my message that as a collective we will ensure that they enjoy it.”
Meanwhile, new MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Themba Mthembu, was sworn-in this morning.
“Mthembu will champion an agrarian revolution that will ensure that agriculture becomes a catalyst for socio-economic development,” said Premier Mchunu. – SAnews.gov.za
