Pretoria - Although no load shedding is currently taking place, the power system is expected to be tight until Friday, said Eskom.
“The power system will be tight, particularly over the weekday evening peak periods until Friday this week. We will continue to monitor the situation, and should it be necessary to implement load shedding, we will communicate this accordingly,” said Eskom on Tuesday.
This after the power utility implemented stage 1 load shedding on Monday night following a shortage of generation capacity due to power station units being on maintenance.
This was the first time Eskom implemented load shedding as the utility had managed to keep the lights on for more than five weeks.
“As the weather begins to warm up, usage of electricity becomes high for most of the day predominantly due to the increased usage of air-conditioners, geysers and pool pumps. We call on all electricity users to continue using electricity sparingly in order to reduce the risk of load shedding,” said Eskom. - SAnews.gov.za
