Pretoria - The man suspected of murdering Sergeant Xolani Sowambi, 35, from the Eastern Cape will appear in the Queenstown Magistrate Court, on Thursday.
A Hawks task team arrested a 34-year-old suspect on Tuesday, in Queenstown, and an unlicensed firearm was seized in the process.
The Acting Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Major General Mthandazo Ntlemeza and the Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General Celiwe Binta, have welcomed the swift arrest.
They have commended the breakthrough, which will bring solace to the family of the late Sergeant Sowambi, while investigations are still underway to haul in the remaining suspect.
Sergeant Sowambi was allegedly hijacked and killed while en-route to work last week Saturday, to start his morning shift the following day.
His private vehicle was found in Whittlesea following an all-night search by the police. Two suspects were seen running away after being stopped by police. – SAnews.gov.za
