Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe and members of the Cabinet are to meet with the South African Editors' Forum this weekend, as part of Government's strategic engagement with key stakeholders.

The two-day meeting will discuss, among other things, how media can contribute towards building a democratic society and an informed citizenry.

It will culminate in a press briefing on Saturday.

According to the Government Communications and Information System (GCIS), the meeting will provide an opportunity for government and Sanef to reaffirm their commitment to working together to create a better life for all South Africans.

In August 2011, President Jacob Zuma hosted a summit with media owners as part of the President's on-going consultations with key sectors of society on various sectoral issues.

"The meeting with Sanef, signals government's commitment to ensuring that both government and the media remain relevant in their robust contributions towards the national developmental agenda in the public discourse," said the GCIS in a statement.

It added that government remains committed to media freedom as enshrined in the Constitution.
