SABC condemns fake acting COO Twitter account

Pretoria - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has condemned the creation of a fake Twitter account in the name of Acting Chief Operations Officer (ACOO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

“The SABC condemns the actions of an imposter who is masquerading on the social media platform, Twitter, as Mr Motsoeneng. We view this matter in a serious light as this is just not a violation of Mr Motsoeneng’s rights and identity theft, but it affects the SABC as the organisation that Mr Motsoeneng represents,” said SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.

The broadcaster on Thursday said that the individual masquerading as the acting COO is communicating messages that are in conflict with the SABC’s standpoint on several issues, which in turn is causing a problem for the organisation and misrepresenting the Acting COO.

Motsoeneng, Kganyago said, does not have a Twitter account and any account with his name and photograph is deemed fake and must be disregarded.

“Both Motsoeneng and the SABC will make an application to all the relevant law enforcement institutions to discard the existing Twitter account under his name,” said Kganyago. - SAnews.gov.za
