Eskom investigating incident at Ingula

Pretoria- Eskom says it is investigating a safety incident at its Ingula pumped storage construction site in KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident happened at a work area inside the water tunnel between the upper dam and the turbine area at the construction site which is located near Ladysmith.

“An investigation is currently underway and emergency teams are on site. Further information will be issued as details emerge,” said the utility.

Media reported that three people lost their lives while several others were injured when a tunnel collapsed on Thursday morning.

The storage scheme consists of an upper and lower dam, each with a capacity of approximately 22 million cubic metres of water. –SAnews.gov.za
