Last day to register children for 2014

Monday, May 20, 2013

Pretoria – The Gauteng Education Department has urged all parents who have not yet registered their children for the 2014 academic year to do so before the closing date tomorrow.

Tuesday marks the last day for parents to register their children in public schools in and around Gauteng for the 2014 academic year. The department thanked parents who heeded the call to register their children during the period, which started on 17 April 2013.

“The department will from 15 to 26 July 2013 send out letters to parents informing them of the outcome of their applications. Parents will be given a period of seven school days after receiving these letters to accept or reject placement.

“Completing the admissions process in the second term will ensure that our schools are ready to operate from day one of the 2014 schooling year, and that we are able to meet our constitutional obligation of equity and access to public schools,” department spokesperson Charles Phahlane explained.

Phahlane added that when the department knew the number of learners coming to schools in 2014, they will be able to prepare early for school infrastructure, learner and teacher support material and furniture.

“Schools will have sufficient time to prepare timetables, recruit teachers, and where necessary, arrange nutrition and scholar transport.” – SAnews.gov.za
