MEC Tselapedi suspends four senior officials

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Mafikeng -The North West MEC for Basic Education Reverend Johannes Tselapedi on Thursday announced that four senior officials had been placed on precautionary suspension.

Godfrey Mompei, the Chief Director for Infrastructure; Ziegfred Hlongwa, the Director for Infrastructure; Nono Dince, the Chief Director for Financial Management and Edwin Tladi, the Director for Supply Chain Services were placed on suspension with immediate effect.

Allegations of irregular tender processing, fraud and corruption have been levelled against the four.

Tselapedi, however, emphasised that the suspensions were not a finding or judgement against any of the officials concerned.

He confirmed that other officials were also under investigation.

The announcements comes on the heals of the North West Provincial Government confirming the suspension of the Superintendent General of the Department of Education, Mathanzima Mweli on Wednesday.

The department said the action was taken to enable the provincial government to investigate matters relating to financial management in the department.

Erol Gradwell has been appointed as acting Superintendent General.
