Check 94.7 road closures

Friday, November 19, 2010

Johannesburg - A number of roads in and around Johannesburg will be closed to traffic for much of Sunday, 21 November, for the annual Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge.

Organisers of this year's Cycle Challenge expect 26 000 cyclists to take to the streets in the world's second largest mass participation cycling event, reports Joburg.org.

To ensure the safety of both cyclists and residents, the City of Joburg, the Joburg Metropolitan Police Department, the Joburg Roads Agency and the Gauteng Department of Public Transport, Roads and Works will implement a total road closure on the affected route.

Motorists are advised to familiarise themselves with the 94.7km long route as well as alternative routes they can use on the day.

It will be difficult to travel between the north and south of Johannesburg and motorists are advised to use the N1 and the M1 North as far as possible.

If travelling to Sandton from the north, the best roads to use are Rivonia Road or William Nicol Drive. From Rosebank, use Oxford Road as the entire length of Jan Smuts Avenue will be closed.
