Metrorail to set the record straight

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Pretoria - Metrorail Gauteng Regional Manager Nozipho Sangweni is set to clarify the company's position on the ongoing strike by train drivers.

Initial reports suggested that the strike which started on Monday was as a result of the company's unilateral change of employee's conditions of employment.

The strike has entered its fourth day today with commuters suffering the most.

Train operations in the Tshwane corridor were marginally affected on Thursday morning while the Gauteng South Region (Johannesburg and surrounding corridors) was the hardest hit, managing only 47 percent of the planned operational capacity.

Metrorail has expressed concern about Satawu's total disregard of the court interdict granted on Tuesday which ordered striking workers to return to work.
