Zuma returns from SADC Summit

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma concluded his visit to Botswana on Saturday night after leading a government delegation to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government Summit.

South Africa's participation in the SADC Heads of State came within the context of the country's commitment to consolidate the African Agenda through its commitment to strengthening and consolidating SADC as a sub-regional economic bloc and a vehicle for the attainment of sustainable regional political and economic integration and development.

According to the Department for International Relations and Cooperation, those participating in the summit agreed on the developmental agenda of the continent and also discussed SADC efforts aimed at entrenching the consolidation of democracy within the region.

The SADC headquarters in Gaborone were also officially inaugurated by the Heads of the State and government during the summit.

Zuma was accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and other senior government officials.
