Pretoria - Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is expected to meet United States President Barack Obama to discuss long-lasting solutions to the political problems facing that country.
They are expected to meet in Washington on Friday.
Mr Tsvangirai will become one of the first African leaders to engage with the US President since his inauguration in January.
Speaking to BuaNews on Wednesday, Movement for Democratic Change spokesman Ngcobezitha Mlilo said the purpose of the meeting between the two leaders was to rebuild Zimbabwe's relations with other countries.
"Zimbabwe has been isolated for far too long and we are hoping that this meeting will help change that.
"[Mr Tsvangirai] will be trying to engage President Obama on the progress that has been made in Zimbabwe with an intention of bringing our country back in the international community," said Mr Mlilo.
Mr Tsvangirai, who is the leader of the MDC, and President Robert Mugabe and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara formed a unity government brokered by former South African President Thabo Mbeki last year.
