Motlanthe condemns assassination attempt in Lesotho

Pretoria - Chairperson of SADC and South African President Kgalema Motlanthe has unequivocally condemned the attempted assassination of the Prime Minister of Lesotho Pakalitha Mosisili at his home in Maseru on Wednesday.

President Motlanthe, on behalf of SADC and in his own name said, "SADC condemns without equivocation the attempted assassination of the democratically elected Prime Minister of Lesotho Pakalitha Mosisili.

"It is the firm view of the region that no cause can ever justify such heinous acts."

In the same breath President Motlanthe reiterated, "SADC condemns any attempt at unconstitutional transfer of power," adding that such acts have no place in the region.

He also commended the South African security forces that successfully caught the perpetrators.

"I commend the South African security forces who successfully apprehended two of the perpetrators of this act and express the hope that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that all those implicated face the full might of the law," said President Motlanthe.
