Vote counting in the National and Provincial Elections 2024 has now been completed and the process to capture and validate results is underway.

​​​​​​​Vote counting is progressing steadily after South Africans took to the polls in the 29 May National and Provincial Elections.

Halfway through the first day of vote counting in South Africa’s 2024 National and Provincial Elections, over 20% of votes have been tallied. 

Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, has expressed her gratitude to all stakeholders within the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster for their unwavering dedication and professional conduct during the policing of the 2024 General Elections in the province.

Government has thanked the millions of South Africans who successfully went out in their numbers to make their voices heard in the seventh democratic elections by casting their votes.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to thank everyone who waited in long queues at voting stations across the country on Wednesday.

The atmosphere at the Electoral Commission’s national Results Operations Centre (ROC) in Midrand is lively this morning as the first results in the National and Provincial Elections start to trickle in.

Voting stations have now officially closed and Election Day 2024 in South Africa has drawn to a close.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has assured voters, who arrive at voting stations before 9pm tonight, that they will be allowed to vote, even if the process stretches beyond the closing time.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has cast his vote at the St Johannes Church in Kelvin in Sandton.

The Electoral Commission in KwaZulu-Natal has encouraged registered voters who have yet to cast their votes, to do so ahead of the closing of voting stations at 9pm.

As voting continues, Parliament has reminded eligible voters that the right to vote is an important political right enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

Government has commended the inspiring smooth start to the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.

Voting in the 2024 National and Provincial Elections got off to a steady start with 93% of voting stations reported to have opened at 7am on Wednesday.
