Wednesday, May 8, 2013

Pretoria - Bilateral relations between South Africa and the oil rich Azerbaijan will come under the spotlight this week.

International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) Deputy Minister Marius Fransman arrived in the capital Buku for the two-day official visit which will review the relations between the two countries.

Fransman, according to his department, will hold discussions with his counterpart Araz Beyukaqa Oğlu Azimov.

“It is expected that the two deputy ministers will review the status of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and multilateral issues of common interest,” said Dirco.

Diplomatic relations between South Africa and the producer of large quantities of oil and gas Azerbaijan were established in 1991 and it’s only recently that their relationship is starting to have substantive content.

Currently, the South African Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, is accredited on a non-residential basis to Azerbaijan.
