Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has congratulated Felipe VI on his coronation as King of Spain.
Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos los Santos de Borbon y Grecia -- the new king's full name -- was crowned on Thursday at the Spanish parliament after his father abdicated the throne.
In a statement issued on Thursday, President Zuma wished King Felipe VI every success in fulfilling the important responsibilities.
“The Kingdom of Spain remains South Africa’s strategic partner and we look forward to continuing our cooperation to promote trade and investment, and preserve peace and prosperity in Africa and the world,” he said.
President Jacob Zuma also expressed gratitude to King Carlos I, for steering Spain from military dictatorship to democracy and for his personal contribution and mutual support to the further advancement of South Africa - Spain bilateral relations during his reign as King of Spain. – SAnews.gov.za
