International Relations meets Parly's obligations

Pretoria - The Department of International Relations and Cooperation and its Minister have met their obligations to Parliament and the Portfolio Committee, said the department on Monday.

This follows allegations from members of an opposition party that Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane was not meeting her obligation to these bodies.

"As a department, we have so far obliged to all requests by the Portfolio Committee to give briefings, make presentations and to present any document requested," the department said in a statement.

"The minister does meet her obligations to Parliament and the Portfolio Committee," the department said, adding that there was no request from the Portfolio Committee that the minister had refused to respond or comply with.

The department said it had answered all parliamentary questions from 2007 to 2009 and it was determined to do the same in 2010.
