Danny K heats up Fan Fest

Port Elizabeth - The unpleasant weather that hit Port Elizabeth on Tuesday did not keep football fans and fun lovers away from the FIFA Fan Fest at St George's Park.

Almost 2 500 turned up to watch the World Cup semi-final between Holland and Uruguay and to enjoy a delightful performance by talented South African musician Danny K.

In the end everyone agreed it had been a marvellous evening out, despite the weather.

Kaylee Cavendish, who came with a group of friends from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, said the foul weather had nearly made her stay at home. "We could have watched the soccer at home, but when will we ever get an opportunity again to see Danny K perform live, and for free?"

Denver Beukes, who plays for a Northern Suburbs football club, came wrapped in a large orange blanket. "The Netherlands are my team and I support them all the way. The passion with which they played tonight proved there can only be one winner of the World Cup. Viva Oranje!

"It was really cold and there was a rather small crowd but did not keep Danny K from putting everything into his performance. He was excellent and I am definitely going to buy myself his new cd tomorrow," Beukes said.

A large group of Spanish supporters, dressed in green from head to toe, also showed up at St George's Park. They said even if it snowed, they would return to the Fan Fest arena today to watch on the big screen when their team play Germany. The match will be shown live from 20.30 pm.

Isabella Mendez, a 27-year old chef from Madrid, said she had never heard of Danny K, "but seeing him perform has been a great privilege. He is just so hot!"

The St George's Park gates open at 13.15pm today when the PE Jazz Legends will entertain the early birds. They will be followed by Shoe Lace at 14.15pm, The Magnets Jazz Band at 15.15pm, Jack Rabbit Slim at 16.20pm and Melvin Matthews at 17.15pm.

The highlight of the evening's entertainment will be the performance by popular musician Loyiso.
