Pretoria - Alistair Campbell, a British relations expert who served as spokesperson to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, is in South Africa to share his expertise with government communicators.

Campbell was invited by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and will interact with government communicators at the two-day Government Communicators' Forum (GCF), which began on Monday.

Campbell is a writer, communicator and strategist. He was also press secretary and director of communications and strategy, during which time his responsibilities included coordinating government communications and press briefings twice a day.

"As part of its mandate to capacitate government communicators, the GCIS invited Mr Campbell to share some of the experiences he's gained during his stint in the British government, focusing on the lessons that are relevant and applicable to the South African environment," GCIS said in a statement.

The GCF is held once every quarter. Campbell is one of the many experts in media and communications, who have been invited to interact with government communicators.
