Thursday, April 7, 2011

Beijing - An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale hit near the east coast of Honshu of Japan at 10:32 p.m. Beijing time on Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 38.2 degrees north latitude and 142.0 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 40 kilometers, the center said.

Japan was hit by a massive quake and tsunami last month, which wreaked havoc at the Fukushima Daiichi plant, leaving that country with a radiation problem on its hands.

So far, there have been no reports of or injuries but the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning, advising people in the affected areas to evacuate to higher ground. - BuaNews-Xinhua
