Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has extended condolences to the families of 22 people who were killed in two horror road crashes on Sunday night and Monday morning.

"We extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved on this painful and tragic loss of life," said Zuma.

On Sunday night, 15 people died in a horror collision between two minibus taxis and a bakkie in Bothaville in the northern Free State.

On Monday morning, seven people were also killed when a taxi overturned on the Mabopane Highway in Pretoria.

Zuma stressed the need for South Africans to place more value on human life when travelling on the country's roads.

"Public transport operators carry an even greater responsibility as they carry the lifeblood of this country."

The Department of Transport and law enforcement agencies have been directed to take a tough stance on transgressors.
