Zuma saddened by death of MK veteran

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma says he is saddened by the passing away of struggle veteran and activist Leonard Mdingi, whom he described as a “selfless hero".

The Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) veteran, who originates from Mbizana in the Eastern Cape, passed away on Sunday.

"Comrade Mdingi was one of the country's fearless, selfless and disciplined struggle veterans. South Africa has lost a truly selfless hero,” said Zuma on Wednesday.

Conveying his condolences to the family, Zuma said the country was grateful for his contribution to the attainment of freedom that is enjoyed today.

Mdingi will be buried on 24 November in Mbizana, Eastern Cape, where the President is expected to deliver a eulogy. – SAnews.gov.za
