Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has said a warm goodbye to former Cabinet spokesperson and CEO of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), Themba Maseko.

Minister in the Presidency, Collins Chabane, on Wednesday announced the transfer of Maseko to the Department of Public Service and Administration as Director General. Jimmy Manyi, from the Department of Labour, has been appointed in his place.

Zuma, as the head of the National Executive, extended a fond farewell to Maseko in a statement on Thursday.

"Themba Maseko's efficiency as well as his affable and humble nature saw him cement relations with the media fraternity, thereby greatly improving relations between the media and government in the process. He instilled confidence in government communications and has set a good track record."

The President also welcomed Manyi and wished him well on his new appointment and expressed his confidence that he would handle his new assignment diligently and effectively.

At his last post-Cabinet briefing earlier today, Maseko took the opportunity to thank the media fraternity for their support during his four-year tenure.
