Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma, who is in Uganda for a two-day state visit, will today address Members of Parliament and also unveil a commemorative monument in remembrance of fallen South African anti-apartheid heroes in Kampala.
Zuma's visit is aimed at enhancing economic and political relations between South Africa and Uganda and consolidating trade relations. Bilateral agreements will be signed, in the fields of agriculture, trade, science and technology and customs co-operation.
International Relations spokesperson, Saul Molobi, told BuaNews that Zuma will use his address to parliament to assure Uganda of South Africa's support in addressing conflicts on the continent.
Zuma will attend the launch of the Uganda National Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, said Molobi.
A business forum, to be co-chaired by trade ministers of the two countries, which will help to expand the areas of economic co-operation, is also planned.
"The visit is aimed at further enhancing economic and political relations between the two countries, development in the East African region as well as multilateral co-operation in the African Union, United Nations and other key forums," the Presidency said on Monday.
On Friday, Zuma will officially open the OR Tambo School of Leadership and also unveil the South African Wall of Remembrance built in Kampala to in honour of fallen ANC struggle heroes who were buried in Uganda.
South Africa and Uganda enjoy fruitful bilateral and trade relations. The two countries have also co-operated effectively in peace-building on the African continent.
