What to expect at voting stations

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

Pretoria – With less than 20 hours to go before South Africans head to the polls in the country’s fifth democratic elections, SAnews explains what to expect at voting stations.

Registered voters going to their respective stations will need to remember to bring along their Identity Documents to enable them to vote.

At the voting stations, voters will wait in the queue. Once you get closer to your turn, IEC officials will be on standby.

You are then taken to the voters roll officer to confirm your name and sequence number which is then struck off the national voters' roll.

The IEC officials will then mark the voter's left thumb with indelible ink, before giving them two ballot papers - one for provincial and one for national.

Eligible voters who did not register this time round, but voted in previous elections are automatically added to the country's voter registry and will also be able to part take in this year's election.

Once inside the voting booth, you mark your preferred candidate with an 'X' in the square provided.

The IEC has indicated that voting “selfies” won't be tolerated.

The marked ballots will then be folded and put into their respective boxes. - SAnews.gov.za
