Weskoppies issues resolved

Pretoria - The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development has assured that the situation at Weskoppies Mental Hospital has been resolved, following weeks of protests by hospital employees.

The dispute that led to the recent strike action by employees was due to a "no work no pay" deductions arising from last year's public servant's strike.

According to the department, the resolution reached is that department will refund the employees for over deductions. 

"Correct deductions will be made on 15 April 2011, the department has taken steps to obtain a court interdict to prevent employees from embarking on further illegal strike action," the department said in a statement.

The department also reiterated that patients' health care was not compromised and patients received necessary treatment and care during the strike. - BuaNews
