Well done IEB Class of 2011

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Johannesburg - With more than 40 Gauteng private school matriculants performing excellently in last year's IEB examinations, it is clear that the province is home to top achievers, says Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane.

The premier on Wednesday congratulated learners from private schools in Gauteng for once again being top performers among private schools in the country, reports the Gauteng Provincial Government.

Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matriculants achieved a pass rate of 98.15% in 2011, marginally lower than the 98.38% achieved by the Class of 2010.

A total of 8 281 learners sat for the IEB exams last year.

"We are confident that the learners who performed well in last year's examinations - both from private and public schools - will add value to our province as we strive towards building a globally-competitive city-region.

"As we have said before, education is the foundation of a globally-competitive city-region," she said.

Gauteng public school matriculants will have to wait until tomorrow to receive their results.
