Pretoria – The Water and Sanitation Forum set up in Kannaland is aimed at promoting a two-way flow of information about the provision of reliable water and sanitation services to communities.
The Kannaland Water and Sanitation Forum was established following a commitment made by Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane that water and sanitation forums must be established to interface with communities on issues of water and sanitation.
The Department of Water and Sanitation has conducted an induction session for the Kannaland Water and Sanitation Forum about the roles and responsibilities of the forum.
The forum will, among other things, create an enabling environment for stakeholder participation/engagement and empowerment in water and sanitation governance, and encourage communities to participate in water and sanitation awareness campaigns to reduce infrastructure vandalism.
It will also encourage active participation of local community members on water and sanitation matters.
The Kannaland Water and Sanitation Forum will sit quarterly to discuss water and sanitation related issues, thus providing interventions where applicable.
The department has urged water and sanitation forums to play ambassadorial role in advocating water and sanitation issues, in particular water conservation. – SAnews.gov.za
