Pretoria – The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, has reiterated that whoever kills a police officer will be hunted down and put behind bars.
“No one kills a police officer and enjoys peace of mind. People who threaten the security of our State by killing police officers will be hunted down and we will ensure that they face the full wrath of the law,” Ntlemeza said.
His stern warning comes after the Hawks Tactical Operation Management Section (TOMS), in conjunction with the National Investigation Unit (NINU) arrested a 30-year-old, who has been on the wanted list for the murder of Captain Lamola.
Joshua Bomba Shongwane, who was out on bail on another murder charge, was rearrested for armed robbery. When he was about to appear at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on 12 October 2016, a scuffle ensued between him and police officers.
During the altercation, Shongwe shot and killed Captain Lamola before escaping.
Since the incident, TOMS and NINU have been on Bomba’s tail. They finally caught him where he was hiding in Eersterust, Pretoria. He was found in possession of an Audi A1, which was found to have been hijacked in KwaThema, Springs, in September this year.
Ntlemeza has praised the TOMS and NINU teams for following every piece of information, which led to the arrest of Shongwe.
“Well done to our members who put their lives in danger in their quest to rid the country of all dangerous criminals,” said Ntlemeza.
Shongwe will appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face charges of murder, hijacking, escaping from custody, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle. – SAnews.gov.za
