Pretoria - The office of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says matters relating to the security of the Deputy President are the responsibility of the police.

This after allegations levelled by Kate Lorimer, DA Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, regarding the reported conduct of the security detail of the Deputy President allegedly committed last Friday in Midrand, Gauteng.

The Deputy President’s office added that police would be best positioned to answer any questions regarding the alleged conduct of the VIP Protection Unit.

“Nonetheless, the office of the Deputy President wishes to reiterate its long held view that in providing the necessary security support to political principals, the Presidential  Protection Services should undertake such responsibilities within the ambit of the law, and with due respect to rights of  members of the public,” said the Deputy President’s office. - SAnews.gov.za
