Vhavenda King coronation postponed

Monday, September 5, 2016

Pretoria – The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Ministry has announced the postponement of the planned coronation of Vhavenda King, Tony Mphephu, until all the current legal issues are addressed and concluded.

The Ministry on Monday said it had consulted with the Vhavenda Royal Family regarding the postponement.

This comes after the High Court in Venda, Thohoyandou on Friday granted an interdict to the planned coronation which was scheduled to take place on 9 September 2016.

“As government we respect the decision of the court as an arbiter on all the legal questions in our country and we will also abide by its decision. The new date of the processes for the coronation of the Vhavenda King will be announced at a later stage,” said the Ministry.-SAnews.gov.za
